I’m a freelance classical music journalist and copywriter with two decades’ experience of interviewing the greatest musicians in the world and observing issues and trends in the classical music world. I was Editor of The Strad magazine for many years, and I’ve written for BBC Music Magazine, The Guardian and Music Teacher, among other outlets – you can find out more in my portfolio.

I’m new to Substack and still figuring out what Elbow Music should be and why you should subscribe. Please be patient while I work it out, and in the meantime, sign up to enjoy free semi-regular articles about classical music, with off-beat takes and interviews with amazing musicians.

[Why is it called Elbow Music? I am a violinist and play in amateur orchestras and chamber music groups, but I also love folk and world music – I was in a Sephardic band for 19 years. I listen to just about anything with a fiddle in it, and we all need our elbows!]
